News releases and other stories

There’s no shortage of news on the Medical Campus. It’s not possible to cover everything, so here’s where we focus our efforts:

  • Major research news and medical innovations that have the potential to improve human health.
  • Faculty profiles and news about national awards and honors.
  • Significant campus news and initiatives.

Our news releases, feature stories and media hits can be found in the School of Medicine news hub. Our news releases and stories also are distributed via The Record, the email newsletter that goes to faculty, staff, students and outside subscribers.

How to work with us

If you have a story idea, please let us know as early as possible. Here are some general guidelines for what we cover in news releases and The Record.

Major research news and medical innovations published in peer-reviewed journals
It’s never to early to let us know about upcoming research that would be of broad interest to the public and the media. Generally, we need to have several weeks notice to write a news release. Our writers work in advance so news releases can be written, approved and distributed to trusted media in advance of embargoes lifting. When you contact Medical Public Affairs, please let us know why you think your research would be of interest to the media.

Faculty profiles
We write about doctors and scientists who are leaders in their respective fields or in the community. We also like to hear about faculty with compelling back stories.

Grants
We write news releases that cover significant grants that fund research of interest to the public and the media. Grants in more specialized interest areas are covered in Research Wire, in The Record.

National awards and honors
We write news releases to cover election to the National Academy of Sciences, American Association for the Advancement of Science and announcements about major awards. Other honors and awards are covered in Notables, in The Record.

Campus-wide news and events
Conferences and symposiums occur on campus daily. You can make sure your event is listed as a calendar item. We cover select events that are free and open to the public.

Obituaries
We write obituaries about current faculty, staff and students and former faculty who have held leadership positions at the School of Medicine.

Subject matter experts
We’d like to hear from you if you’re interested in sharing your expertise and perspectives on pressing issues with the news media.
